Today’s Theme for Prayer – Jesus Unites Me to His Body

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

How Do I Grow in Ability to Share and Receive

A soul filled with thoughts of sensual desire and hatred is unpurified. St. Maximus the Confessor

Emptying Ourselves, Filling the World with His Love

Phil 2:1-8

If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also for those of others.

Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Grace Prayed For

The grace of humility and self-giving love, that we may have the heart of Christ—one that seeks not power or comfort but the renewal of the world through love and service.

Reflection

In this passage, Paul invites us into the very heart of Christ—a heart defined by self-giving love, humility, and radical obedience to the Father. Jesus, though fully God, did not cling to power but poured Himself out for the sake of the world. This self-emptying love is not just an act of the past; it is the foundation of God’s ongoing renewal of creation.

We are taught that salvation is not about escaping this world but participating in its renewal. Christ’s humility and sacrificial love are the blueprint for how we are to live as members of His kingdom—seeking not personal gain but the flourishing of others, working toward a world where justice, mercy, and peace take root. Just as Jesus emptied Himself, we too are called to empty ourselves of selfish ambition and pride, allowing His love to shape how we serve, forgive, and bring healing to those around us.

The cross was not the end—it was the beginning of a new creation. When we live in the humility and love of Christ, we become part of this transformation, anticipating the day when heaven and earth will be fully restored. Our daily acts of self-giving love are not meaningless; they are glimpses of the kingdom breaking into the present.

Jesus stands before us, inviting us to follow His way—the way of the cross, the way of renewal, the way of love.

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

Participating in God’s Renewal: The reflection connects personal transformation with the broader work of God’s kingdom. Understanding that your acts of self-giving love contribute to the renewal of the world gives your faith a purpose beyond personal salvation. This sense of purpose can deepen your commitment to following Jesus and strengthen your connection to him.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
