Psalm 116

I love the LORD, who listened to my voice in supplication, Who turned an ear to me on the day I called. I was caught by the cords of death; the snares of Sheol had seized me; I felt agony and dread. Then I called on the name of the LORD, “O LORD, save my life!” Gracious is the LORD and righteous; yes, our God is merciful. The LORD protects the simple; I was helpless, but he saved me. Return, my soul, to your rest; the LORD has been very good to you. For my soul has been freed from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I shall walk before the LORD in the land of the living. I kept faith, even when I said, “I am greatly afflicted!” I said in my alarm, “All men are liars!” How can I repay the LORD for all the great good done for me? I will raise the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people. Dear in the eyes of the LORD is the death of his devoted. LORD, I am your servant, your servant, the child of your maidservant; you have loosed my bonds. I will offer a sacrifice of praise and call on the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people, In the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah!

Grace Prayed For

The grace of praise: To offer our heartfelt thanks and praise to the Lord for His abundant blessings.

A Song of Deliverance and Thanksgiving: Psalm 116’s Lessons on Gratitude and Faithfulness

The psalmist’s heartfelt words in Psalm 116 are a powerful testament to the unwavering love and mercy of God. This psalm is a song of thanksgiving, a declaration of faith in the face of adversity, and a reminder of the importance of fulfilling our vows to the Lord.

In times of distress and despair, the psalmist turned to the Lord in prayer and supplication. The cords of death had tightened around them, and the snares of Sheol had taken hold. Yet, even in this dire situation, the psalmist remembered the name of the Lord and cried out for salvation.

The Lord, who is gracious, righteous, and merciful, heard the psalmist’s plea and saved them from the depths of despair. The psalmist, once helpless, was rescued and restored to a place of peace and security.

This experience of divine intervention led the psalmist to reaffirm their faith in the Lord and to acknowledge the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness. The psalmist declares, “The Lord has been very good to you.”

The psalm also emphasizes the importance of keeping our vows to the Lord. In times of trouble, we may make promises to God, seeking His help and guidance. Once we have received His blessings, it is essential that we remember our vows and fulfill them in gratitude.

The psalmist expresses their desire to offer a sacrifice of praise and to call upon the name of the Lord in the presence of all his people. This act of public worship is a testament to the psalmist’s faith and a way of honoring the Lord for His saving grace.

Psalm 116 is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, we can find hope and comfort in the Lord’s unfailing love. He hears our prayers, delivers us from trouble, and restores our souls. Let us, like the psalmist, offer our heartfelt thanks to the Lord and fulfill our vows to Him in gratitude for His abundant blessings.

This psalm invites us to deepen our intimacy with Jesus by recognizing His faithfulness in our lives, expressing our gratitude for His salvation, and fulfilling our commitments to Him. May we always remember to call upon the name of the Lord in times of need, trusting in His unwavering love and mercy.

Growing in Intimacy with Jesus

Experiencing His Deliverance: The psalmist’s testimony of being rescued from the brink of death highlights Jesus’ power and compassion as our Savior. Reflecting on this can deepen your trust in Him and gratitude for His saving grace.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
