His Faithfulness Surrounds Us: An Invitation to Trust
“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Psalm 89:1-18
The favors of the LORD I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. For you have said, “My kindness is established forever,” in the heavens you have confirmed your faithfulness. “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: Forever will I confirm your descendants and establish your throne for all generations.” The heavens proclaim your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies can rank with the LORD? Who among the sons of God is like the LORD? A God fearsome in the council of the holy ones, great and awesome beyond all around him. LORD God of hosts, who is mighty like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves surge, you still them. You have crushed Rahab like a carcass; with your strong arm you scattered your foes. Yours are the heavens, yours is the earth; the world and its fullness you have founded. North and south you created; Tabor and Hermon sing joyously at your name. Yours is a mighty arm; strong is your hand, exalted your right hand. Justice and right are the foundation of your throne; kindness and truth go before you. Blessed the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your face, LORD, they walk. In your name they rejoice all the day, and through your justice they are exalted. For you are the splendor of their strength, and by your favor our horn is exalted. Truly, the LORD is our shield, the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Grace Prayed For
The grace to continually recognize, deeply trust in, and joyfully proclaim the eternal kindness and unwavering faithfulness of God our Father in every aspect of our lives and in all our interactions.
Reflection
Let the opening words of this Psalm resonate within the deepest chambers of your heart: “The favors of the LORD I will sing forever.” This isn’t merely a declaration; it’s an invitation into a lifelong conversation of gratitude with the One who has established His kindness towards you eternally. Feel the weight of that promise – forever. Through every sunrise and every quiet moment, His kindness endures.
The Psalmist speaks of a covenant, a sacred agreement made with a chosen one, a promise of enduring legacy and an established throne. In Christ Jesus, you are part of that legacy, grafted into a kingdom that will never end. The faithfulness proclaimed in the heavens is the very same faithfulness that secures your place in the heart of the Trinity.
Consider the power described: God who stills the raging seas, who crushed ancient foes, the creator of heavens and earth. This same mighty God is not distant but intimately involved in your life, His faithfulness surrounding you like an invincible shield. Justice and right are the very foundation of His being, yet they are preceded by kindness and truth in His approach to you.
You are blessed, dearly loved one, to know this joyful shout, to walk in the very light of His face. Your strength, your exaltation, comes not from your own merit but from His favor. This intimate knowing is not meant to be kept within; it is a joyful proclamation to the world. In every encounter, may your life sing of His favors, may your actions declare His faithfulness, inviting all to experience the shelter of His eternal kindness.
Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus
Psalm 89 speaks of God’s covenant with His chosen one, establishing his descendants and throne forever. This finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, the Son of David whose kingdom has no end. By reflecting on God’s faithfulness and the promises made in this Psalm, we gain a deeper understanding of Jesus’ identity and his central role in God’s plan of salvation. Our intimacy with Jesus grows as we recognize him as the living embodiment of God’s eternal kindness and the fulfillment of this ancient covenant, drawing us into a deeper relationship with the Father through him.
When Time Allows Reflect on the Posts in Library and Musings
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
