Jesus’ Saving Desire: A Personal Encounter

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

1 Tim 1:12-17

I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he judged me faithful and appointed me to his service— even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and an arrogant man. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I am the foremost. But for that reason I received mercy, that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life. To the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Grace Prayed For

This scripture passage prompts us to pray for the grace to fully surrender to God’s transformative mercy and to allow His saving love to act freely and powerfully within us, removing all obstacles of doubt, fear, or self-reliance.

Reflection

My heart swells with a profound sense of gratitude as I meditate on these words from Paul. He, who once saw himself as the “foremost of sinners,” became a radiant testament to Jesus’ boundless desire to save. And isn’t that our story too? Perhaps not a persecutor like Paul, but each of us, in our own way, has experienced moments of wandering, of turning away, of acting in unbelief. Yet, in the midst of our imperfections, our struggles, our past mistakes, Jesus’ desire to save us burns with an unquenchable flame. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect; He comes to us in our mess, extending a mercy so vast it overflows, bringing with it the gifts of faith and love.

This passage is a tender whisper from the heart of God, assuring us that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This isn’t just a theological statement; it’s a personal declaration of love to you, to me. It’s the core truth that anchors our hope and fuels our journey. When I consider my own life, the moments of doubt, the times I’ve fallen short, the grace of God has always been there, not just to forgive, but to strengthen, to redeem, and to call me to something greater. Jesus desires to save me, to embrace me in His love, and to transform me by His presence. This intimate knowledge of being profoundly loved, despite everything, is what draws me closer to my Trinitarian God – to the Father who planned our salvation, to the Son who executed it, and to the Spirit who makes it real in our hearts. It’s in this deep embrace that intimacy flourishes.

And from this wellspring of personal encounter, a new desire emerges: to share this transformative love with the world. Paul’s own radical transformation became an “example for those who would come to believe.” Our story, too, becomes a living testimony. When we truly grasp that Jesus has loved us, has impacted our lives so profoundly, we can’t help but radiate that love outwards. Every encounter becomes an opportunity, not to preach, but to embody the mercy we’ve received. It’s about living with an open heart, seeing others through the lens of God’s love, and believing that Jesus desires to save them just as much as He desires to save us. It’s about partnering with Him in the grand mission of restoring all of God’s creation, one genuine, love-filled interaction at a time. This isn’t a burden; it’s the joyful overflow of a heart captivated by Christ’s saving embrace.

Announcing Jesus in Our Lives

Live a Life of Authentic Love: The most powerful evangelization is often simply living a life characterized by genuine love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When people see the fruits of the Spirit in you, it speaks volumes.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
