John 16:13-22
On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. “I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” His disciples said, “Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech. Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now? Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
Grace Prayed For
Peace in Christ: Pray for the grace to experience deep and abiding peace in Jesus, even amidst the troubles and challenges of this world. Ask for the ability to trust in His presence and find solace in His promises.
Finding Peace in Christ Amidst the Storms of Life
This passage from John’s Gospel offers a powerful message of hope and courage to Jesus’ disciples, and to us today. As Jesus prepares them for the impending trials and separation, He reminds them of the unwavering presence of the Father and His own victory over the world. This message serves as an anchor for our souls, reminding us that even in the midst of life’s storms, we can find peace in Christ.
Key Points for Reflection:
- The Inevitability of Trials: Jesus acknowledges that His followers will face trouble in the world. This serves as a reminder that the Christian life is not immune to challenges and difficulties.
- The Assurance of God’s Presence: Despite the trials, Jesus assures His disciples that He is not alone, for the Father is with Him. This truth extends to us as well; we are never alone, for God is always by our side.
- The Source of Peace: Jesus’ words offer a profound source of peace: “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.” True peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of Christ in the midst of it.
- The Victory of Christ: Jesus boldly declares, “I have conquered the world.” This victory assures us that no matter what challenges we face, we can overcome them through Christ who strengthens us.
Inspiration and Application:
- Facing Trials with Courage: This passage encourages us to face life’s trials with courage, knowing that we are not alone and that Christ has already overcome the world.
- Finding Peace in Christ: In the midst of life’s storms, we are invited to find peace in Christ. By focusing on His presence and His promises, we can experience a deep sense of calm and security.
- Trusting in God’s Sovereignty: Even when circumstances seem overwhelming, we can trust in God’s sovereignty and His perfect plan for our lives. This trust enables us to persevere with hope and confidence.
- Sharing the Hope of Christ: As we experience the peace and courage that come from knowing Christ, we are called to share this hope with others. May our lives be a testimony to the transformative power of His love and grace.
Growing in Intimacy with Jesus
Assurance of His Presence: Jesus’ declaration that He is not alone because the Father is with Him, even when His disciples forsake Him, assures you of His constant presence in your life. This knowledge deepens your trust in Him and fosters a sense of security and intimacy.
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
