John 5:19-30
Jesus answered and said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, a son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees his father doing; for what he does, his son will do also. For the Father loves his Son and shows him everything that he himself does, and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may be amazed. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes. Nor does the Father judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to his Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life. Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to his Son the possession of life in himself. And he gave him power to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voices and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation. “I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
Grace Prayed For
Hear and believe in Jesus’ words: Ask for the grace to open our hearts to Jesus’ teachings, to truly understand them, and to have unwavering faith in him as the Son of God.
The Son’s Reflection of the Father
In this passage, Jesus reveals the profound intimacy and unity between himself and the Father. He emphasizes that his actions and teachings are not his own but a direct reflection of the Father’s will and work. Just as a son learns from his father and emulates his actions, so too does Jesus model everything after the Father.
This divine relationship holds powerful implications for us as believers. First, it assures us of the authority and authenticity of Jesus’ teachings. He speaks not on his own authority but with the full backing and endorsement of the Father. When we listen to Jesus, we are hearing the very voice of God.
Second, it reveals the heart of God towards us. The Father loves the Son and delights in showing him all that he does. This same love extends to us, as we are called to be co-heirs with Christ. We are invited into the very heart of the Trinity, to witness and participate in the divine dance of love between Father and Son.
Third, it offers us hope and assurance of eternal life. Jesus declares that whoever believes in him and the one who sent him will not perish but have everlasting life. This is not simply a future promise but a present reality. As we place our faith in Christ, we are transferred from the domain of death to the realm of life, where we experience the fullness of God’s love and presence.
Finally, it calls us to live a life of obedience and surrender to the Father’s will. Just as Jesus sought to do only what he saw the Father doing, so too are we called to align our lives with the Father’s purposes. This means listening attentively to his voice, seeking his guidance in all things, and obeying his commands with joy and faithfulness.
Questions for Reflection:
- How does this passage deepen your understanding of the relationship between Jesus and the Father?
- In what ways can you model your life after Jesus and seek to do only what you see the Father doing?
- How can you cultivate a deeper intimacy with the Father and experience the fullness of his love and presence in your life?
May this reflection inspire you to draw closer to the heart of the Father and live a life that reflects his glory and goodness.

Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
