John 3:31-36

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven is above all.  He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift  of the Spirit. The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Grace Prayed For

Openness and receptivity: Ask for the grace to open our hearts and minds to Jesus’ words, to truly hear and understand the message he brings from the Father.

Embracing the Heavenly Perspective

The words of John the Baptist echo with profound truth, inviting us to lift our gaze from the mundane and fix it upon the divine. “The one who comes from above is above all” – a reminder that our Savior, Jesus Christ, transcends the limitations of earthly existence. While we, as earthly beings, often get caught up in worldly concerns, Jesus comes from the realm of heaven, offering a higher perspective and a deeper understanding.

In this passage, we encounter a stark contrast between those who embrace Jesus’ testimony and those who reject it. Jesus, as the one sent from God, speaks with divine authority, revealing the Father’s love and plan for salvation. Yet, not all are willing to accept his message.

The challenge for us is to open our hearts and minds to Jesus’ words, recognizing that they are not merely human teachings but the very words of God. When we believe in the Son, we are not simply assenting to a set of beliefs; we are entering into a relationship with the living God, a relationship that leads to eternal life.

The beauty of this passage lies in the assurance that God’s love is not limited or rationed. He pours out his Spirit generously upon those who believe, empowering them to live a life that reflects his glory. This is not a life devoid of challenges, but it is a life filled with purpose and meaning, a life that ultimately leads to the fullness of joy in God’s presence.

As we reflect on these words, let us be inspired to embrace the heavenly perspective that Jesus offers. Let us turn away from the distractions of this world and fix our eyes on him, the one who came from above to show us the way to eternal life. Let us listen to his voice, trust in his promises, and live in the light of his love.

Growing in Intimacy with Jesus

Emphasizing God’s Love through Jesus: The passage reveals the intimate love between the Father and the Son, as well as God’s love for humanity. This profound love, demonstrated through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, invites us to respond with love and devotion, deepening our relationship with him.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
