The LORD Our Justice: Preparing for the Righteous King

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Jeremiah 23:5-8

See, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David; as king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah shall be saved, Israel shall dwell in security. This is the name they give him: “The LORD our justice.”

Therefore, the days are coming, says the LORD, when they shall no longer say, “As the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt”; but rather, “As the LORD lives, who brought the descendants of the house of Israel up from the land of the north,” and from all the lands to which I banished them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Grace Prayed For

The grace of courageous trust in God’s justice, enabling me to live with the security of one who has been saved, and to reflect His wisdom by striving to do “what is just and right” in all my actions.

Reflection

“See, the days are coming… when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David.” This ancient promise is the ultimate source of my hope. This “Shoot” is Jesus, the Son of God, who comes not just to visit, but to reign and govern wisely and to establish justice and right in the land—starting with the inner landscape of my own heart. Advent vigilance, then, is the watchful awareness that the King who saves me is also the King who judges me, prompting me to prepare my soul for His perfect wisdom.

The profound intimacy of my relationship with the Triune God is revealed in the name given to the King: “The LORD our justice.” Jesus has loved me so completely that He became my justice. He took on the ultimate injustice of the Cross so that I might dwell in security and be saved from the lands of my own brokenness. The Holy Spirit, the love poured forth by the Father and the Son, works within me to make my heart a land where what is just and right can truly flourish.

My mission in the world flows directly from this personal restoration. The prophet says people will no longer recall only the Exodus from Egypt, but the new, greater Exodus—the salvation wrought by the Righteous Shoot from all the lands to which I banished them. This is the Gospel! Jesus has brought me back from the exile of sin and despair. When this truth resides securely in my heart, my life itself becomes a witness to this new Exodus. The love of God shines forth as I demonstrate the security and justice only Christ’s reign can provide in every single encounter.

Daily Evangelization and Baptismal Mission

When recounting a past difficulty or struggle, always frame the narrative around the salvation and grace that God provided, rather than focusing solely on the hardship.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
