John 16-12
“I have told you this so that you may not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you. “I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me,* ‘Where are you going?’ But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation: sin, because they do not believe in me; righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned. “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
Grace Prayed For
Patience and Trust in God’s Timing: Pray for the patience to wait on God’s timing, trusting that He will reveal His truth and plans as you are ready to receive them. Ask for the grace to surrender control and embrace His perfect timing.
Facing Challenges with Faith and Hope
This passage from John’s Gospel prepares the disciples for the difficult times ahead, reminding them that their faith will be tested and they may face rejection and even persecution. Jesus speaks with both honesty and compassion, acknowledging the grief that His departure will cause but also assuring them of the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate.
Key Points for Reflection:
- Forewarning of Challenges: Jesus prepares His disciples for the opposition and persecution they will encounter because of their faith in Him. This serves as a reminder that following Christ doesn’t guarantee an easy life; in fact, it may lead to challenges.
- The Advocate’s Role: Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who will guide, empower, and convict the world. This offers hope and assurance that even in difficult times, believers are not alone.
- Truth and Transformation: The Holy Spirit’s work involves convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and condemnation. This process leads to transformation and a deeper understanding of God’s truth.
- Divine Timing: Jesus acknowledges that there are things the disciples cannot yet bear to hear, emphasizing the importance of divine timing in spiritual growth.
Inspiration and Application:
Sharing the Gospel: The Holy Spirit’s work of convicting the world reminds us of our responsibility to share the Gospel. We are called to be witnesses of God’s truth, pointing others to Christ.
Remaining Steadfast: This passage encourages us to remain steadfast in our faith, even when facing trials and opposition. We can draw strength from knowing that Jesus has forewarned us and promised the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
Embracing the Holy Spirit: We are reminded to actively seek the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives, allowing Him to guide, empower, and convict us. Through the Spirit, we can experience transformation and grow in our faith.
Trusting in God’s Timing: We are encouraged to trust in God’s timing, recognizing that there are things we may not yet understand or be ready for. We can rest assured that He will reveal His truth to us as we are able to bear it.
Growing in Intimacy with Jesus
Invitation to Seek: The disciples’ lack of questioning about Jesus’ destination highlights the importance of actively seeking Him and His will. This encourages you to cultivate a posture of seeking His presence, deepening your connection and intimacy with Him.
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
