Called to Holiness, Called to Mission

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

1 Thessalonians 4:1–12

Finally, brothers, we earnestly ask and exhort you in the Lord Jesus that, as you received from us how you should conduct yourselves to please God—and as you are conducting yourselves—you do so even more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. This is the will of God, your holiness: that you refrain from immorality, that each of you know how to acquire a wife for himself in holiness and honor, not in lustful passion as do the Gentiles who do not know God; not to take advantage of or exploit a brother or sister in this matter, for the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you before and solemnly affirmed. For God did not call us to impurity but to holiness. Therefore, whoever disregards this, disregards not a human being but God, who [also] gives his holy Spirit to you.
On the subject of mutual charity you have no need for anyone to write you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another. Indeed, you do this for all the brothers and sisters throughout Macedonia. Nevertheless we urge you, brothers, to progress even more, and to aspire to live a tranquil life, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you, that you may conduct yourselves properly toward outsiders and not depend on anyone.

Grace Prayed For

The grace to live in holiness and love so fully united to Jesus’ Body that every encounter becomes an opportunity to share His life with others.

Reflection

Jesus unites us to His Body so that holiness is not an isolated pursuit but a shared way of life. Paul reminds us that God’s will is our holiness, a holiness that is not abstract but lived concretely in purity, mutual respect, and love. When I live with reverence for others, when I see each encounter as sacred, I am choosing communion with Christ and His Body.

This passage draws me deeper into the truth that my life is not my own—it belongs to Jesus and to His Body, the Church. My work, my daily relationships, and even the quiet simplicity of life become acts of witness to the Gospel. Jesus has loved me so fully, so personally, that He invites me to be His presence in the world. The holiness He calls me to is not only for me but for the flourishing of the Body and the healing of creation.

To share and receive in every encounter, I must allow the Spirit to shape my desires and actions so that others glimpse in me the One who gave His life for them. The mission is not grand gestures alone but faithfulness in the small and hidden ways of love. To live chastely, to respect each person’s dignity, to work honestly with my hands—this is to let Jesus extend His Body into the world through me. And in that extension, others may come to see that they too belong, they too are loved, and they too are called into union with Him.

Announcing Jesus in Our Lives

Ways to Evangelize in Daily Life
  • Share your story of love: Speak of how Jesus has loved you and impacted your life when opportunities arise, not in lofty words but in simple testimony.
  • Practice reverence for others: Treat each person with dignity as a member of Christ’s Body or as one invited into it.
  • Live with integrity: Honest work, patience, and kindness quietly proclaim the Gospel.
  • Be attentive to the Spirit: Pause before encounters to ask Jesus, “How can I share You here?”
  • Extend invitation: Invite someone to pray with you, attend Mass, or share a meal where faith naturally flows into the conversation.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
