My Intimate Partner in Mission

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.

Grace Prayed For

This scripture passage prompts us to pray for the grace to be authentic disciples, allowing the transformative love of God to season our lives and shine through our actions. We pray for the grace to remain so intimately connected to Jesus that our lives naturally become a source of light and flavor for the world, not through our own effort, but through the power of the Holy Spirit working within us.

Reflection

Jesus, my dearest friend, how you have transformed my life! My soul was bland, tasteless, and hidden in darkness until you came and invited me into an intimate relationship with you. You’ve taught me what it truly means to be loved. You don’t just ask me to be good; you make me good. You don’t just ask me to be a light; you ignite the very fire of your Holy Spirit within me.

You call me the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world,” but this isn’t a command to do more on my own. It’s an intimate invitation to be more with you. You are the source of my seasoning, the very flavor that makes my life meaningful. When I stay close to you in prayer, when I listen to your Word, you infuse me with your love, patience, and compassion. This isn’t a facade; it’s a deep, personal change you’ve worked within me. .

And as for being the “light of the world,” that’s simply a result of our friendship. My light isn’t my own; it’s your divine light shining through me. When I love others as you have loved me—unconditionally and without judgment—they don’t see me, they see you. When I perform acts of kindness, when I speak words of encouragement, or when I simply listen with a compassionate heart, it’s your love that’s at work. You’ve taught me that my life, lived in partnership with you, is a beacon on a hill. It can’t be hidden because you’ve placed it there.

So, this isn’t a mission I undertake alone. It’s a mission we undertake together. You have made me a disciple, a partner in your ongoing work of restoring all creation. It’s a beautiful dance of grace and action. I simply need to remain in you, and you will produce the fruit—the salt and the light—that the world so desperately needs. Thank you, Jesus, for making me your intimate disciple.

Announcing Jesus in Our Lives

Evangelizing in Daily Life

You can evangelize in your day-to-day life by simply living out your faith authentically. Your baptismal mission to partner with Jesus in restoring creation can be fulfilled in simple, yet profound ways:

  • Be a good listener: Offer a compassionate ear to a friend in need, showing them they are seen and heard. This reflects God’s attentive love.
  • Practice forgiveness: Choose to forgive someone who has wronged you. This act models the radical forgiveness Jesus offers.
  • Show kindness through service: Hold the door for someone, help a coworker with a difficult task, or simply offer a genuine smile. These small acts of service reflect the humility and love of Christ.
  • Speak with love: Instead of complaining, offer words of gratitude and encouragement. Let your words build others up, not tear them down.
  • Share your story: When the opportunity arises, briefly and humbly share how Jesus has impacted your life. This isn’t a lecture, but a personal testimony of his love for you.

By living in this way, you fulfill your baptismal mission, proclaiming the Gospel not just with your words, but with the very flavor and light of your life.

When Time Allows Reflect on the Posts in Library and Musings

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
