A Glimpse of Glory: Fuel for the Great Commission

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Revelation 7:9, 14b-17

After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.

These are the ones who have survived the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

For this reason they are before the throne of God and worship him day and night in his temple, and the one who sits on the throne will shelter them.

They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them.

For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Grace Prayed For

This scripture passage prompts the reader to pray for the grace of a deepened vision of God’s redemptive plan and a burning desire to participate actively in bringing others into the multitude gathered before the throne. We can pray for courage, perseverance, and a spirit of audacious love to share the Gospel across all barriers, trusting in the power of the Risen Christ to draw all people to himself.

Reflection

The days following Easter are not merely a return to ordinary time; they are an invitation to live in the radiant afterglow of the resurrection. This passage from Revelation lifts the veil, offering us a glimpse into the triumphant reality that awaits those who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb. Look at this vast multitude, countless souls from every corner of the earth, standing united before the throne! This is the fruit of the resurrection’s power – the ingathering of a redeemed humanity, a testament to Christ’s victory over sin and death that shatters all barriers of nation, tribe, people, and language.

Consider their white robes, made clean and bright not by their own efforts, but “in the blood of the Lamb.” This is the core of our hope, the transformative power of Jesus’ sacrifice and his subsequent resurrection. Because he lives, we can be made new. Because he lives, we have access to the very presence of God. They hunger no more, thirst no more, are shielded from all suffering, shepherded by the Lamb himself to springs of life. This is the abundant life Jesus promised, a life secured by his triumph over the grave.

How does this vision propel us into fulfilling Jesus’ Great Commission? The Great Commission is not a burdensome task, but an urgent invitation to share in this glorious future! We are called to go and make disciples of all nations, all peoples, all languages. This passage reveals the “why” behind the “go.” We go because the Risen King is building a kingdom that transcends earthly divisions. We go because the life-giving water and the shelter of God’s presence are meant for everyone. We go because we have experienced the washing power of the Lamb’s blood and yearn for others to stand, robed in white, before the throne. The power of the resurrection is the assurance that our efforts are not in vain; the harvest is indeed plentiful, and this passage shows us the glorious reality of that completed harvest. Let this vision fuel your passion, strengthen your resolve, and empower you to share the life-changing news of the Risen Christ.

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

This passage fosters greater intimacy with Jesus by revealing him as the Lamb at the center of the throne, our Shepherd who leads us to life-giving water and shelters us. Seeing him in this glorious, caring role, surrounded by the redeemed from every tongue and tribe, deepens our awe and love for him. It reminds us that our salvation is personal – we are individually washed in his blood – yet also communal, as we are part of this vast family gathered around him. This vision of our eternal home, with Jesus as our central focus and provider, draws our hearts closer to him in worship, trust, and anticipation.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
