John 1:6-9

A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony,  to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.  The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

Grace Prayed For

The Grace of Openness: The world yearns for the light. Pray for the grace to have an open heart, receptive to God’s light and willing to be illuminated by it.

A Beacon in the Darkness: Reflecting on John 1:6-9

The opening verses of John’s Gospel paint a powerful picture. Imagine a world shrouded in shadow, yearning for something more. Then, a beacon appears: John the Baptist. Not the source of light himself, but a man sent by God, a herald crying out in the wilderness. His purpose? To point the way, to bear witness to the coming light – Jesus Christ.

John’s humility is a lesson for us all. He doesn’t seek his own glory, but redirects attention to the true source of hope. It’s a reminder that sometimes the greatest impact we can make is by simply pointing others towards the divine.

The scripture tells us this light “enlightens everyone.” This isn’t a selective light, reserved for the chosen few. It’s a light meant to pierce through the darkness of doubt, fear, and despair, offering hope and guidance to all who seek it.

Here are some prompts for further reflection:

  • In what areas of your life do you feel lost or in darkness?
  • How can you be a beacon for others, pointing them towards the light of Jesus?
  • Have you experienced the illuminating power of Jesus’ light in your life?

We are all called to be witnesses, to share the transformative message of Christ. Maybe it’s through a kind word, a listening ear, or simply living a life that reflects the love and compassion of Jesus. Remember, even the smallest flame can illuminate a vast darkness.

So let us go forth, inspired by John the Baptist, to be beacons of hope, leading others towards the true light – Jesus Christ, who brings enlightenment to the world.

Growing in Intimacy with Jesus

Reminds You of God’s Invitation: The light of Jesus is for “everyone.” This is a beautiful reminder of God’s universal love and open invitation to a relationship. Realizing this can open your heart to a deeper level of intimacy with the Lord, built on gratitude for his unconditional love.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
