Jesus, the Way to the Father’s Heart

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”
John 14:1-7

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Grace Prayed For

The grace to fully embrace Jesus as the Way to the Father, allowing this truth to dispel all fear and anxiety and to guide our interactions with the world.

Reflection

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.” These are the comforting words of Jesus, spoken at a moment of great uncertainty for his disciples. In these few verses, he reveals profound truths about the Father’s love and provision. He assures them, and us, of a place prepared in the Father’s house, a dwelling filled with welcome. This isn’t just a future promise; it’s an invitation to present trust. Jesus’ departure is not abandonment but a loving act of preparation.

His promise to “come back again and take you to myself” speaks volumes about the intimacy God desires with us. It’s a loving embrace, drawing us into the very heart of the Trinity, where Jesus is with the Father. And when the disciples express their confusion about the way, Jesus offers a powerful revelation: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This is the ultimate provision – Jesus himself is the path to the Father, the living truth that guides us, and the very life that sustains us. To know Jesus is to know the Father; to see Jesus is to see the Father. This passage calls us to move beyond intellectual assent to a deep, personal knowing. Our mission, then, becomes to live in this truth, allowing Jesus, the Way, to guide our steps and to be the living embodiment of the Father’s love in every encounter, pointing others to the same source of peace and eternal dwelling.

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

This passage is fundamentally about Jesus revealing his intimate relationship with the Father and inviting us into that same relationship through him. He states clearly that he is the way to the Father. By focusing on Jesus’ words, we come to understand his central role in God’s plan for our salvation and our connection to the Father. We learn that through faith in Jesus, we have access to the Father’s love and provision. This awareness naturally draws us closer to Jesus, recognizing him as the divine bridge, the one who makes intimacy with the Trinitarian God possible.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
