“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Called to More: Becoming a Disciple Who Transforms Lives and Go

Acts 5:12-16

Many signs and wonders were done among the people at the hands of the apostles. They were all together in Solomon’s Portico. None of the others dared to join them, but the people esteemed them. Yet more than ever, believers in the Lord, great numbers of men and women, were added to them. Thus, they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and mats so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow might fall on one or another of them. A large number of people from the towns in the vicinity of Jerusalem also came together, bringing the sick and those disturbed by unclean spirits, and they were all cured.

Grace Prayed For

Lord, grant me the grace to live in the power of Your Resurrection, that my life may be a witness to Your love and healing presence in the world.

Reflection

The power of the risen Christ is not confined to the empty tomb or the upper room—it radiates outward, transforming lives and drawing multitudes into His embrace. In this passage, we see the apostles, emboldened by the Holy Spirit, stepping forward in faith. They do not keep the joy of the Resurrection to themselves but proclaim it through word and deed. Signs and wonders accompany their witness, not for spectacle, but as evidence that Christ is alive and at work in His Church.

What if we lived with the same conviction? The apostles were ordinary men, yet they trusted in the extraordinary presence of Jesus among them. Their courage and faith drew others to the Lord, not by force, but by the undeniable reality of a life transformed by grace. Their very presence became an invitation to encounter Christ. Even Peter’s shadow—something as fleeting as the passing of light—became a vessel of healing because he walked so closely with Jesus.

We, too, are called to carry the power of the Resurrection into the streets, into our workplaces, into our families. Jesus commissions us to go and make disciples, not through mere words, but by allowing His presence to flow through us. Do we trust that our “shadow”—our daily interactions, our quiet acts of love, our steadfast witness—can be an instrument of His healing and mercy? If we remain close to Christ, our lives will naturally radiate His presence, drawing others toward Him.

The world is longing for healing, for hope, for the touch of Christ. Will we step forward in faith and become living witnesses of His Resurrection?

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

This passage invites us to stay close to Jesus, just as the apostles did. The more we abide in Him, the more His power flows through us. Intimacy with Christ deepens when we trust Him to work through our ordinary lives in extraordinary ways. As we surrender to His Spirit, we come to recognize that discipleship is not about our strength but about His presence moving through us.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
