The Mission of Mercy: Sharing God’s Intimate Love

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”
Deut 7:6-11

But this is how you are to deal with them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, chop down their asherahs, and burn their idols in the fire. For you are a people holy to the LORD, your God; the LORD, your God, has chosen you from all the peoples on the face of the earth to be a people peculiarly his own. It was not because you were the most numerous of all peoples that the LORD set his heart on you and chose you, for you were really the smallest of all peoples. It was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath that he had sworn to your ancestors, that the LORD brought you out with his strong hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Know, then, that the LORD, your God, is God: the faithful God who keeps his covenant and his steadfast love to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments, repaying instantly with destruction those who hate him. He is not slow to those who hate him, but instantly repays them. Therefore, observe carefully the commandment and the statutes and the ordinances that I am commanding you today. If you heed these ordinances, by carefully observing them, the LORD, your God, will maintain with you the covenant of steadfast love that he swore to your ancestors: he will love you, bless you, and multiply you; he will bless the fruit of your womb and the produce of your soil, your grain and wine and oil, the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock, in the land that he swore to your ancestors to give you. You shall be blessed beyond all other peoples; there shall be no sterile male or female among you, or among your livestock.

Grace Prayed For

A deeper trust in God’s unwavering love and provision, and the courage to share that love with the world.

Reflection

Do you feel the fire of God’s love burning away all that separates you from Him? He calls you holy, chosen not for your strength, but for His unwavering affection. He shattered the chains of your slavery, not because you earned it, but because His promise to your ancestors echoes even now, a testament to His faithfulness.

He is not a distant deity, but a God who keeps covenant, whose love stretches beyond generations. He blesses the work of your hands, the fruit of your womb, the very ground beneath your feet. You are blessed beyond measure, a living testament to His overflowing grace.

This is not a passive inheritance, but a call to action. Like the Israelites, we are called to tear down the idols of our hearts, the false gods of fear, doubt, and self-reliance. We are to smash the pillars of pride that keep us from bowing in humility before His majesty. We are to burn away the asherahs of worldly desire that distract us from His divine presence.

This intimate encounter with God’s love compels us to share it. We become living epistles, proclaiming His goodness in every encounter. We are missionaries of His mercy, ambassadors of His grace, carrying the fire of His love into the world.

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

This passage reveals the Father’s heart, a heart of steadfast love and unwavering faithfulness. Jesus, as the perfect reflection of the Father, embodies this love. By meditating on the Father’s love in Deuteronomy, we grow closer to Jesus, understanding the depth of His sacrifice and the intimacy He desires with us. He is the fulfillment of the Father’s promises, the ultimate expression of God’s love for humanity.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
