My Chosen One: Finding Security in God’s Embrace

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”
Isaiah 41:8-14

But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, my friend— you whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and summoned from its farthest corners, saying to you, You are my servant, I have chosen you, and not cast you off— do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Yes, all who rage against you shall be put to shame and disgrace; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. You shall seek those who contend with you, but shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all. For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you. Fear not, you worm Jacob, you insignificant Israel; I will help you, says the LORD; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

Grace Prayed For

The grace to truly believe and internalize God’s personal affirmation of love and unwavering promise of help in every aspect of life.

Reflection

Imagine God speaking these words directly to you: “You are my servant, I have chosen you, and not cast you off.” This is the voice of a loving Father, reaching out to His beloved child. Despite our feelings of insignificance (“you worm Jacob, you insignificant Israel”), God affirms our value and purpose. He reminds us of His constant presence: “do not fear, for I am with you.” In moments when we feel overwhelmed or inadequate, He promises strength and help, upholding us with His “victorious right hand.”

This passage paints a powerful picture of God’s active care. He not only chooses us but actively intervenes on our behalf, promising to put our adversaries to shame. This isn’t about earthly victory as much as it is about the unwavering assurance that no force can ultimately separate us from His love and provision. This intimate connection, where God holds our right hand and whispers, “Do not fear, I will help you,” is the very foundation of our trust. Our mission, then, is to live out of this secure place, extending the same hand of friendship and assurance to those we encounter, reflecting the Father’s unwavering love and support to a world often gripped by fear.

Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus

Jesus, as the ultimate revelation of God’s heart, embodies these very promises. He is the “Redeemer,” the Holy One of Israel, through whom God’s love and provision are made fully manifest. When we read of God choosing and not casting off His servant, we are reminded of Jesus’ own chosenness and the Father’s steadfast love for Him, a love He extends to us. Jesus’ earthly ministry was a constant demonstration of God’s presence and power, strengthening and helping those in need. By meditating on this passage, we recognize Jesus as the fulfillment of these promises, deepening our intimacy with him as the one who bridges the gap between our insignificance and the Father’s boundless love.

When Time Allows Reflect on the Posts in Library and Musings

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
