John 1:1-5, 14-18
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth. John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’” From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.
Grace Prayed For
The Grace of Openness: The Word became flesh to dwell among us. Ask for the grace to be open to God’s presence in your daily life, recognizing opportunities to connect with Him in unexpected ways.
The Unveiling Light: A Reflection on John 1:1-18
The opening verses of John’s Gospel hold immense power, unveiling the profound mystery of God’s presence in our world. Let’s delve into these beautiful words and see how they can inspire us:
The Word Made Manifest: John begins with a powerful statement: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This “Word” isn’t simply spoken words; it’s the embodiment of God’s creative power, wisdom, and love. John tells us this Word existed eternally with God, and through this Word, “all things came to be.”
The Light in the Darkness: The Word is also described as “life” and the “light of the human race.” This light shines ever-brightly, penetrating the darkness of the world. No matter how dark things may seem, this light remains undimmed, offering hope and guidance.
From Word to Flesh: The most breathtaking revelation comes with these words: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” The eternal Word, existing before creation, took on human form as Jesus Christ. God himself walked among us, unveiling His glory and offering us a glimpse of the divine.
Grace Upon Grace: John the Baptist, a powerful prophet, proclaims Jesus’ supremacy and pre-existence. Through Jesus, we receive “grace in place of grace,” meaning an overflowing abundance of God’s favor. The Law, given through Moses, provided guidelines, but it was Jesus who brought grace and truth, offering forgiveness and a deeper understanding of God’s love.
Seeing the Unseen: John emphasizes the unique role of Jesus: “No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.” Through Jesus, we are given a glimpse of the otherwise unseen God, experiencing His love and character in a tangible way.
Finding Inspiration: This passage offers a wealth of inspiration:
- The Power of the Word: Reflect on the creative power within God’s Word. How can you allow His Word to have a transformative effect in your life?
- Light in the Darkness: When facing challenges, remember the unwavering light of Christ. He offers hope and guidance, even in the darkest of times.
- God’s Immeasurable Love: The incarnation of Jesus is a testament to God’s immense love for humanity. How can you share this love with others?
- Grace Abounds: Recognize the abundance of God’s grace available to you. Live a life of gratitude and extend grace to others as freely as you have received it.
By contemplating these profound truths, we can deepen our faith and experience a closer relationship with God. The Word became flesh, and through Jesus, we can experience the divine light that shines ever brightly, even in the darkest corners of our world.
Growing in Intimacy with Jesus
Developing a Personal Relationship: Understanding Jesus as the revealer of God allows you to develop a more personal relationship with God the Father. Through Jesus, you can connect with God on a deeper level, sharing your thoughts, feelings, and prayers directly with him.
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
