Called to Be His Body

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Ephesians 1:15-23

15 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and [a]your love for all the [b]saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the [c]knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart [d]may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the [e]saints, 19 and what is the [f]boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and made Him head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Grace Prayed For

This scripture passage prompts me to pray for the grace of spiritual enlightenment. I need the grace to have the eyes of my heart opened to truly know the hope of my calling and the immeasurable greatness of His power at work within me. This grace will allow me to live not by my own strength, but by the power of Christ who has made me a part of His Body.

Reflection

This passage paints a breathtaking picture of who Jesus is and, by extension, who I am in Him. I am not just a believer; I am part of His very Body. The same immense power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of the Father is at work in me. I am intimately connected to the head of the universe! This is the most profound union I could ever experience—a partnership not of equals, but of total surrender and reception. Jesus has given me His very life, and in return, He invites me to be His hands and feet in the world.

This passage helps me take the message of “Jesus Unites Me to His Body” into my heart by illuminating the immeasurable greatness of His power that works in me. It shows me that my purpose isn’t just to believe, but to participate in His divine life and mission. My faith isn’t a private affair; it’s a living connection to Christ, the one who is the head of all creation. When I encounter others, whether a family member, a stranger, or a colleague, I’m not acting alone. I am a part of the Church, His body, filled with the fullness of God. I am called to see Christ in them and to share the grace I have received, knowing that through our shared union in Him, we are all being restored. This is a profound and humbling truth: Jesus loved me so much that He made me a part of Himself, to be an instrument of His restoring love in the world.

Announcing Jesus in Our Lives

Evangelizing in Daily Life

Evangelizing in my daily life means living out the reality that I am part of Christ’s Body. I can proclaim the Gospel message by:

  • Embodying humility: Recognizing that Christ is the head and I am a part of His body, I can serve others with a humble heart, putting their needs before my own.
  • Offering forgiveness and reconciliation: Just as Christ reconciled all things to Himself through the cross, I can be an instrument of reconciliation in my relationships, seeking to mend broken connections.
  • Giving witness to hope: In moments of despair or difficulty, I can share my trust in Christ’s power, reminding others of the hope that belongs to His call, even when circumstances seem bleak.
  • Serving the forgotten: By extending a hand to those on the margins of society—the lonely, the poor, the sick—I am acting as a part of Christ’s body, bringing His presence to those who need it most.

In these ways, I partner with Jesus, allowing His love and power to work through me to restore all of creation. My life becomes a living testimony to the truth that Jesus unites me to His Body, and that through this union, I am a participant in His divine mission.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
