Scripture Reflection March 20th 2026

Standing at the Door

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Revelation 3:20

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.”

Grace Prayed For

Lord Jesus, give us the grace to hear your knock above the noise of our lives, the courage to open the door without hesitation, and the humility to welcome you into every room of our hearts — especially the ones we have kept closed. Amen.

Reflection

Most of us know what it is to wait on the other side of a closed door — to knock and wonder if anyone will answer. What we rarely stop to consider is that Jesus knows that feeling too. In this passage from Revelation, he is not the one with all the power demanding entry. He is the patient guest, standing in the hallway of our lives, hoping we will hear him.

The door he stands before is not the front door of a home. It is the door of the heart. And what is remarkable is how gently he approaches it. There is no battering ram, no ultimatum, no threat. Only a knock. Only a voice. The entire encounter rests on whether we choose to listen and whether we choose to respond.

As we move through this Lenten season, we are invited to ask ourselves what has kept that door shut. Perhaps it is busyness — a life so full of noise and obligation that his knock simply gets lost. Perhaps it is fear of what it might mean to let him in fully, to surrender the rooms we have carefully guarded. Perhaps it is the quiet assumption that we will get around to it later.

But Christ does not promise a later. He promises a now. He is here, today, at this very moment — not demanding, not disappointed, but present. The invitation is startlingly simple: hear him, open the door, and share a meal together. To dine with someone in the ancient world was to belong to them, to be known, to be at home. That is what he is offering. Not a transaction, not a task — a friendship.

This Friday, pause. Quiet the noise. And listen for the knock.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
