Today’s Theme for Prayer – God Chooses to Make Me

Ps 104:31-35

May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in his works! Who looks at the earth and it trembles, touches the mountains and they smoke! I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the LORD. May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, my soul! Hallelujah!

Grace Prayed For

Awe and Wonder: Pray for the grace to cultivate a deeper sense of awe and wonder at God’s creation and His enduring glory. Ask to see the world through His eyes, recognizing His hand in all things.

Finding Joy in God’s Majesty and Justice

The Psalm evokes awe of God’s majesty and a longing for His justice.

The Psalmist begins by praising God’s enduring glory and His joy in creation. This calls to mind the image of an artist taking delight in their masterpiece. Just as an artist pours their heart and soul into their work, God has poured His love and power into creating the universe. And just as an artist finds joy in their finished work, God finds joy in His creation.

The Psalmist then describes God’s power over nature. With a mere look, God can make the earth tremble, and with a touch, He can make mountains smoke. This imagery reminds us that God is not some distant, uncaring deity. He is intimately involved in His creation, and His power is absolute.

In response to God’s greatness, the Psalmist resolves to sing to the Lord all his life. This is not just a casual promise, but a deep commitment to praise God in all circumstances. The Psalmist’s meditation is also an act of worship, as he seeks to align his thoughts with God’s will.

The Psalmist then expresses a longing for justice. He desires to see sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked no more. This is not a vindictive desire, but a yearning for the world to be set right. The Psalmist knows that sin and wickedness cause suffering and pain, and he longs for the day when God’s justice will prevail.

The Psalm ends with a call to praise. The Psalmist blesses the Lord and declares “Hallelujah!” This is an invitation for all of us to join in praising God’s greatness and goodness.

In our own lives, we can take inspiration from this Psalm by cultivating a deep awe of God, committing to praise Him in all circumstances, and longing for the day when His justice will prevail. We can also find comfort in knowing that God is intimately involved in His creation and that His power is absolute.

Growing in Intimacy with Jesus

Mirroring Jesus’ Devotion to the Father: The Psalmist’s commitment to sing to the LORD all his life mirrors Jesus’ own perfect obedience and devotion to the Father. By striving to emulate this spirit of worship and surrender, you draw closer to Jesus and align your heart with His.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
