John 14:1-14
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where [I] am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.

Scripture Reflection: Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life
In this intimate conversation with His disciples, Jesus offers words of comfort and assurance as He prepares them for His departure. He speaks of a heavenly home with many dwelling places, promising to return and take them to be with Him. This passage reveals profound truths about our relationship with God and the way to eternal life.
- Peace in the Midst of Trouble: Jesus begins by addressing the disciples’ troubled hearts. He assures them that their faith in God and in Him is the foundation for peace, even in the face of uncertainty and change. This reminds us that true peace is not dependent on external circumstances, but on our relationship with God.
- A Heavenly Home: Jesus promises a place in His Father’s house for each of His followers. This speaks of a future reality beyond our earthly existence, a place of eternal joy and fellowship with God. It offers us hope and comfort, knowing that our ultimate destination is a place of perfect love and peace.
- Jesus, the Way: Thomas’ question about the way leads to Jesus’ profound declaration, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This identifies Jesus as the exclusive path to salvation and eternal life. It challenges us to place our complete trust in Him as our guide and Savior.
- Knowing the Father through the Son: Jesus reveals that knowing Him is synonymous with knowing the Father. This speaks of the intimate relationship between the Father and the Son and invites us into that same relationship through faith in Jesus. As we grow in our knowledge of Christ, we will also come to know the Father more deeply.
- The Power of Belief: Jesus emphasizes the importance of believing in Him and in the works that He does. This belief is not merely intellectual assent, but a trust that leads to action. As we believe in Jesus, we will be empowered to do the works that He did and even greater ones, because He is working through us.
Inspirational Takeaway:
May we be inspired by Jesus’ words to:
- Find peace in our faith: Trust in God and in Jesus, even when our hearts are troubled.
- Look forward to our heavenly home: Embrace the hope of eternal life with God.
- Follow Jesus as the Way: Surrender our lives to Him as our guide and Savior.
- Seek to know the Father through the Son: Deepen our relationship with God through prayer, study of His Word, and fellowship with other believers.
- Believe in Jesus’ power: Trust in His ability to work through us to accomplish His purposes.
Let us remember that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. May we cling to Him as our anchor in this world and our hope for eternity.
Growing in Intimacy with Jesus
Boldness to do God’s work: Pray for the courage and strength to do the works that Jesus did and even greater ones. Ask for the grace to be a vessel of God’s love and power in the world.
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
