Embraced by Love: The Trinity Within
“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

John 14:15-28
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him, “Master, then what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me.
“I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.
Grace Prayed For
The grace to truly rejoice in our union with God, acknowledging and celebrating the indwelling of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit within us, and to live from this profound reality.
Reflection
“God gives himself to me.” What a breathtaking truth, a reality so profound it can transform every fiber of our being. This passage from John’s Gospel is not just a promise; it’s an intimate invitation into the very heart of the Trinity, an assurance that God desires to dwell not merely beside us, but within us.
Jesus begins by linking love with obedience: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” This isn’t a burdensome rule, but an expression of a relationship. When we love someone deeply, we naturally desire to please them, to align our will with theirs. And in this divine exchange, Jesus promises an incredible gift: “another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth.” This isn’t a temporary visit; it’s a permanent indwelling. The Spirit, whom the world cannot grasp, is known to us because He “remains with you, and will be in you.” Pause and let that sink in: the Spirit of truth, the very breath of God, is in you.
Jesus assures us, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Even though He will physically depart, His presence will be more profound, more intimate than before. “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.” This is the pinnacle of union, a mystical participation in the Trinitarian life itself. We are not just followers of Christ; we are woven into the very fabric of His being, interconnected with the Father through Him, animated by the Holy Spirit.
And it is this radical indwelling that empowers us. “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.” Imagine, the Father and the Son, making their home in you. This isn’t a distant God, but one who is intimately present, closer than our own breath. This union is the source of “peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you.” This is a peace that transcends circumstances, a deep abiding calm rooted in the certainty of God’s presence and love.
For me, Jesus’s words in this passage have been a constant anchor. There have been moments of doubt, fear, and feeling utterly alone. But recalling His promise, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you,” has brought an unshakeable comfort. The awareness that the Spirit, the “Advocate,” is truly within me, guiding, teaching, and reminding me of everything Jesus taught, has transformed my perspective. It’s not about striving harder to earn God’s love, but about resting in the fact that He has already given Himself completely. This understanding has allowed me to move from a faith based on external rules to a relationship founded on an internal, living presence. This profound intimacy with my Trinitarian God has made my faith real, tangible, and vibrant. It’s a continuous unveiling, a daily discovery of the depth of His love and presence in my life, and this has impacted everything.
This divine indwelling is not meant to be hoarded. It is a gift that compels us outward. How can we, having experienced such an intimate embrace, not share this incredible reality? The peace we receive, the love that dwells within us, is meant to overflow into every encounter. It’s about living from a place of profound union, allowing God’s presence in us to be evident in our compassion, our listening, our words of encouragement, and our willingness to see Christ in every person we meet. When we truly believe that God gives Himself to us, our interactions become opportunities to manifest that divine self-gift to others.

When Time Allows Reflect on the Posts in Library and Musings
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
