Today’s Theme for Prayer – Jesus Calls Me Beyond Myself
How Generous is My Response to the Lord?

Leaving the Familiar: A Journey into Intimacy
Gen 12:1-5
The LORD said to Abram: Go forth from your land, your relatives, and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will find blessing in you. Abram went as the LORD directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai, his brother’s son Lot, all the possessions that they had accumulated, and the persons they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan.
Grace Prayed For
The grace of courage: Pray for the courage to leave behind the familiar and to embrace the unknown. Ask Him to help you overcome your fears and anxieties and to trust that He will be with you every step of the way.
Reflection
Close your eyes for a moment. Feel the weight of the familiar, the comfort of the known, the land of your past, your present. Now, listen closely. Do you hear it? That gentle whisper, that persistent call, the voice of the Beloved, your God, saying to your heart, “Go forth…”
Just as He called Abram from his homeland, from the security of his family and his routine, Jesus is calling you now. He’s inviting you on a journey, an exodus from the familiar territories of your soul, to a land He longs to show you—a landscape of deeper trust, of radical surrender, of intimacy beyond your wildest dreams. This journey may involve letting go of things you value, even things that you feel define who you are, or even letting go of your own understanding of what the future should look like.
This call, this “Go forth,” may feel daunting. Abram was seventy-five years old, no spring chicken ready for adventure. He had roots, possessions, a life built in Haran. Yet, he went. He trusted the voice of the One who called him, even though he could not see the destination, even though the promise of blessing seemed distant and impossible.
What is the Lord asking you to leave behind? Is it a relationship that pulls you away from Him, an ambition that consumes your heart, a fear that keeps you paralyzed? Is it even a self-perception that you have that does not align with the truth of who you are in his eyes? He doesn’t ask you to leave these things behind because He desires to punish you, but because He knows that true life, true joy, true intimacy with Him lies beyond them.
He promises to make you into a “great nation,” to bless you, to make your name great. But His definition of greatness may differ from yours. His blessings may not look like earthly riches or worldly success. His blessings are found in the depths of relationship with Him, in becoming a vessel of His love, a conduit of His grace to a hurting world.
The journey may be long. It may be arduous. You may feel like you are wandering in the desert, unsure of your footing. But remember, Abram did not journey alone. Neither will you.
The same God who walked with Abram, who whispered promises in the stillness of the night, walks with you. He goes before you. He is your rear guard. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Every step, even the stumbles, is an opportunity to lean more heavily on His strength, to trust more deeply in His love. Every letting go is a step further into his embrace.
He is calling you. Not to a life of ease, but to a life of purpose, a life of meaning, a life of intimacy with the One who created you, the One who knows you by name, the One who loves you beyond measure.
Will you trust Him enough to say “yes”? Will you, like Abram, step out in faith, even when the path ahead is shrouded in mist? Will you choose to leave the known for the unknown, the comfortable for the sacred? He is waiting for your response with a patient and loving heart.
The land of promise awaits. The journey begins with a single step. Take it, Beloved. Take it with Him.
Growing in Intimacy/Union with Jesus
Just as God called Abram to leave his homeland and follow Him, Jesus calls us to follow Him, often asking us to leave behind our comfort zones, our old ways of life, and even our own plans. This resonates with Jesus’ words in the Gospels: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24).
When Time Allows Reflect on the Posts in Library and Musings
Sharing
Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
