The Easy Yoke

“For the Souls in Purgatory – Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord”

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

Grace Prayed For

I pray for the grace of Interior Peace—that I may find rest in Jesus’ presence before I take up the disciplines of the Lenten season.

Reflection

Before we enter the “work” of fasting and penance, Jesus invites us to simply be.

Think of the “yoke” not as a heavy piece of farm equipment, but as a shared harness designed for two. When you feel the weight of your own expectations—the pressure to be “perfect” this Lent or the exhaustion of carrying your daily worries—Jesus is leaning in close. He isn’t standing at a distance giving instructions; He is standing right next to you, shoulder-to-shoulder, offering to take the brunt of the weight.

Intimacy grows in the quiet rhythm of walking together. To be “meek and humble of heart” means Jesus has nothing to prove and nothing to hide; He only has love to give. When you stop straining to prove your worth through your sacrifices and start leaning your head against His heart, the “work” changes. It’s no longer about how hard you can push, but how deeply you can trust. Let Him lead the pace today. If you are stumbling, let Him carry you. If you are tired, let Him be your strength.

Sharing

Jesus last words on Earth were to his disciples, can be found in Matthew Chap 28 when Jesus told his disciples, “Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus calls all of us to share in his redemptive mission here on Earth. I would ask you to share this Scripture reflection with your family, your friends and your acquaintances, and then share it with a couple of individuals that you may may not be comfortable sharing with, keeping in mind always the words of Jesus, And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age
